After years of conflict, Syria is largely in ruins. More than half of the former population have lost their livelihoods and are widely dependent on humanitarian aid. Millions of people are displaced within their homeland. Others have fled outside Syria and often found temporary accommodation in the neighbouring countries, such as Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon. Since 2012, the German Red Cross has been providing humanitarian aid in Syria and the neighbouring countries. We work closely with our sister organisations like the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. Besides procuring essential relief items we focus on supporting logistics in Syria. We are operating storehouses, provide them with equipment and materials – an important basis for humanitarian aid to be possible at all. In the neighbouring countries, we support the refugees with cash transfers, health trainings and first aid courses, among other things, but also by supporting community centres in which they receive a wide range of assistance.
