In view of the ongoing and expanding war in Ukraine, the hardship and suffering of Ukrainians both in the country and on the run, and thus their need for humanitarian aid, is becoming more urgent and greater. The German Red Cross is providing extensive aid to care for the civilian population and fleeing people. In Germany, too, we are helping in a wide range of areas.
The German Red Cross is providing comprehensive relief assistance for the population in Ukraine as well as for people fleeing their homes in order to protect lives and care for people in need.
With an extensive relief project, the GRC is providing flexible support to expand existing assistance as quickly as possible in line with the needs on the ground and to be able to implement further measures to support the Ukrainian population. The Federal Foreign Office is financing a large part of the GRC emergency aid.
Seven emergency aid experts of the German Red Cross are currently situated in Ukraine to coordinate the aid with our partners. The Ukrainian Red Cross (URC) faces the immense challenge of constantly preparing for further escalations in the midst of a highly dangerous situation.
In cooperation with the URC and Polish Red Cross (PRC), the GRC has established a supply line between Lublin and Lviv in Poland to ensure a fast and direct delivery of relief supplies to Ukraine with aid convoys.
Since the beginning of the conflict in 2014, the GRC has been strengthening its long-standing cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross. The German Red Cross has been supporting particularly vulnerable people living in eastern Ukraine with monthly financial aid since 2017.
